Antarctica is the coldest, windiest, driest, least-populated and least polluted continent on earth. It holds 70% of the world's fresh water and is one of the best places for scientists to research air quality from 750,000 years ago. It is also the best place to find meteorites to help research about early life on Earth.. Antarctica's land area is 13,829,430 km2- that means the UK would fit into Antarctica 61.5 times!
So, why should we save Antarctica? There are plenty of reasons why. Antarctica helps regulate the Earth's climate. It holds lots of water as ice. Because of people producing CO2, the temperatures are rising, causing the ice to melt. If all the ice of Antarctica melted, then the oceans would rise by 61m! Luckily scientists predict this won't happen for another 7,000 years, but for most countries, a rise in sea level of 1m could have dramatic effects.
